Francis F. Sheflin serves as the Director of Planning and Construction. In this role, he is responsible for site development, gasoline facility design, prototype store layout, architectural design, municipal and state project approvals and permitting, implementation of technological advancements in the industry, capital expenditure budgeting and tracking, and construction scheduling and phasing.
He began is career in 1979 as Senior Draftsman/Designer in the Planning Department of Cumberland Farms after receiving his education at Syracuse University's School of Architecture. In his 30-year career with Cumberland Farms, Mr. Sheflin has played a key role in the growth and evolution of the Company having permitted and designed over 2,000 convenience store/gasoline stations. Some notable projects include the transition and merging of the Cumberland Farms and Gulf brands in 1986, acquisition of the rights to and construction of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Service Plazas in 1989, ongoing design and development of Cumberland Farms and Gulf convenience store prototypes including the Cumberland Farms colonial design in 1996, interior re-design in 1999, and more recently, the new Cumberland Farms AIM image and prototype in 2008. Additional projects include compliance with the federal mandate for the replacement of all single wall underground gasoline storage tanks by 1998, development of the Gulf “Sunrise” and “Gulf Express” image in 2007, and the re-imaging of approximately 140 Exxon stations to Gulf in 2008. In February of 2009, he assumed the responsibilities of the Construction Department after having been intimately involved with their activities during his 30-year career.
